I Want Your Sex (2026)

dir Gregg Araki

I wanted I Want You Sex bad. So bad. I waited months and weeks and days until there was a showing near me and then I jumped and devoured it. It was just okay. But hey, honestly okay is fine by me when it comes to 2026 Araki.
In the past year or so I’ve really imprinted on his work, maybe even considering him “my favorite director” (if I reaaaally have to choose). We’re just lucky that he gave us something new and that it’s better than Kaboom and Now Apocalypse. Don’t get me wrong, I’m actually a huge lover of those two in all their campy, cheesy, cringey glory, but I Want Your Sex feels closer to Smiley Face and The Doom Generation: a future cult classic with a fair mix of sweaty sex and crude jokes.
Cooper Hoffman was very sweet and corrupt-able as Elliot, but the real star was Olivia Wilde aka Erika Tracey. This might be the first time we actually get a real good look at a Gregg Araki character over the age of 26, 27. She’s real (fictional), she’s hot (evil), she’s confident (evil), she’s artsy (evil), and she’s evil (hot). I really don’t want to dive into all the kink dynamics. Nobody needs another take on domme behavior- problematic or subversion? Who cares! If it’s hot, it’s hot. That’s my take. I think Gregg might agree. And if he doesn’t, whatever.
Let’s talk wigs. The most fun in I Want You Sex was the montage smack dab in the middle of the film where we spy on Elliot and Erika playing out different fetish scenes. Each scene! A new hairstyle! My favorite being (you guessed it), the choppy blonde-pink bob with chunky little bangs.

Ufhh. What do Gregg Araki and I have in common? A thing for bobs.
I have to say, I don’t think Araki does happy endings as well as he does total end-of-the-world doom and defeat. And how painfully 2020s. I really don’t want to see these characters on a podcast, I’m sorry. I don’t think this one will be my cultiest classic, but I think it’s cute and I’m happy Gregg got to have his fun. Thank god for the last minute James Duvall cameo. I was thrilled to see Roxane Mesquida too.
Special shout out to Johnny Knoxville, Margaret Cho, and Chase Sui Wonders for fabulous featured performances. Loved the silly little detective bit we had going throughout. Felt like I was watching season six of The L Word. And you know I was going to love a character named Apple no matter what. No comment on Charli XCX. Sorry.
