Yessssss. Yaaaassss.
Have you been seeing all the Taco Bell 2016 Vibes commercials lately? 2010s nostalgia is back in full force, which is truthfully a bit worrying because how can we romanticize something that just happened? Hello? Ten years is nothing. Give me 15 at least, 20 preferably. This has me considering the fact that perhaps my high school reunion has already happened. Perhaps ten years is enough for the average man to start reminiscing…
Anyway! You know what else was going on in the 2010s? Broad City, Portlandia, Community. We were really in our sketch comedy bag. The Wrong Girls hits all of the same buttons for me. I adore Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat. I want to marry them both. And I would like to also marry Dylan Meyer for making this movie. Ladies, there’s enough fig to go around.
Ok but real quick…did anyone else assume this was going to be gayer? Why are these gals straight? That totally threw me off. Like Kristen Stewart’s character literally has a tattoo that says “cool boobs”. HELLO?! But then again, I think every film would be better if it was lesbian so what power does this feedback really hold? I feel like the boy who cried wolf. But this time there is really a wolf!
Note: I saw this film at a 4:20pm showing at the AMC Marina Pacifica where literally every person in the audience was alone and visibly stoned (myself included). We were all spaced out with at least one seat in between us. A gay guy with a Trader Joe’s tote bag was supposed to sit near me but I think he got scared of the potential social interaction because a few minutes into the previews, he got up and moved one row forward. We did not interact. I got a drink from the Coca-Cola freestyle machine (diet cherry vanilla coke).
