Troll 2 (1990)

I’m trying to see this in a new light.

The Italians and vegetarianism brought me here from Blood for Dracula. I’ve seen Troll 2 soooo many times and I’ve always loved it in all its miserable camp glory. I’ve introduced countless friends, family members, and lovers to this movie. But damn! It’s really bad!

There’s this crazy speech the town pastor (?) gives that’s virtually indistinguishable from modern day wellness slop content. He’s talking about how people willingly give themselves incurable ailments by refusing to go vegetarian and that meat causes “a stinking bladder”, whatever the hell that is. It’s honestly nuts. The writing in this movie is abysmal. There’s a documentary about the making of Troll 2 and it unpacks some of the weirdness going on here. For one, the writer and director (and most if not all of the crew!) are Italians from Italy. There was a huge language barrier during every step of production, and it’s particularly obvious in the dialogue. These people sound nuts, I’m sorry. Also, for the record, the whole inspiration for Troll 2 was the writer, Rosella Drudi, being pissed off at a bunch of her friends for going vegetarian.

Bonkers.

I don’t even want to get into the name of the film being Troll 2 despite it not being a sequel.
