Sinners (2025)

That was really beautiful. Great performances all around, but especially to Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jack O’Connell. Damn, you guys.
I’m so picky about vampire flicks, I really didn’t think was going to do much for me (which is partly why I didn’t bother to watch until today), but I was super duper wrong. Loved it. I think I learned something about myself: I love urgency when it comes to vamps. There needs to be a panic involved. The only slow-burners I have patience for is the Only Lovers Left Alive, which only works because they dread the idea of hunting so much. Sinners has meaty, feral, dripping, drooling vampires. And I like it a lot.
Even before the vamps enter the scene this is such a well done story. You know how I feel about twins, and I think Michael B. Jordan did it wonderfully. I loved every moment shared with Stack and Sammie in the car but the most tender and heart wrenching moments were those between Smoke and Annie. Something I don’t even have words to talk about. I just feel it in my chest. One of the most romantic things you can do for someone is trust that they know what is best for themselves.
