La tía Alejandra (1980)

Super solid witch flick! I had never heard of this one before yesterday when I read someone talking about the similarities between La tía Alejandra and Weapons (which I haven’t seen). I don’t really prioritize new releases but honestly something being a remake makes me 10x more interested, at least in watching the original.
In this case, I tracked down a version of La tìa Alejandra that had English subtitles on Youtube. It didn’t disappoint. Not necessarily bone-chillingly scary, but spooky. Alejandra is very black and white in nature; either she likes you or she kills you. She starts with the little boy, then the older sister, then the father and husband, completely tearing Lucía apart emotionally. Usually I’m one to say that witches are never scary, since most films portray them as more silly and glamorous than threatening, but damn! This one got me. La tía Alejandra is evil and out for blood. Totally recommend looking it up on Youtube.
