Shampoo (1975)

dir Hal Ashby
I love when a movie is a mini-period piece. Released in 1975, set in 1968, Shampoo is a beautiful film to watch if you want to look at gorgeous hair for 2 hours. Probably my personal favorite era of styling. Normally when I watch a film, I’m paying an inappropriate amount of attention to the hair but in this case it feels appropriate!

Goldie Hawn and her brilliant blonde mane are stunning.

Warren Beatty as George, our main squeeze, is a huge tool honestly, but that’s typical of a straight man who does hair. He has a kick ass style, though, I’ll give him that. And his Triumph motor bike is sick. I kinda liked the scene where he refuses to say if he’s gay or not because “what does it matter anyway?” Very Lady Gaga 2011 60 Minutes interview of him.

“Stop kissing everybody’s ass that comes into that shop! That’s not going to make put you in business, that’s going to make you a kiss ass!”
Yeah. Every hairdresser needs someone to yell this at them every couple of months.
